NEXT GEN IS ALMOST HERE AND I’M NOT EXCITED YET

One of many joys in life is opening something, anything new. Whether it be new sneakers, games, or food, it just excites me. There’s a new smell to indulge in, and I can rest assured that I’ll have a pleasurable experience at the very least. New things have a transformative power. If I feel unmotivated, a new shiny object always perks me up. This holds especially true for video games. So, then why am I not excited for either of the upcoming PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X consoles?

Really subtle guys…

Make no mistake; I’ll most likely get both of these machines in the future. The launch lineups of both systems are fairly appealing, and both machines have backwards compatibility this time. Still, I will wait it out this time.

HUNGER FOR MORE

The world’s true greatest pastime

In the past few years, gaming releases have ramped up. I’ve heard narratives of droughts, but I don’t see that at all. It seems every time I look up, some hot new title is about to release. Maybe it’s FOMO, but I am addicted to learning about new games and experiences.

PRICE NOT SO RIGHT

Despite 9th generation being four months out, we know next to nothing about the price of either machine. I get it; neither Sony or Microsoft want to lose the price war, but it would be desirable to have as much information as possible. Not only that, but games drop in price much faster now.

FAMILIAR AFFAIR

MY HEART BURNS WITH FEELING!

There’s an old adage that goes like “Familiarity breeds contempt”. There’s some truth to that. The PS4/Xbox One are dusty as hell. What with the huge $&@ updates and installs, the non solid state drives, 30FPS games, it’s enough to make me wanna yell sometimes. Yet, I’ve grown accustomed to it. Part of me also believes that the PS5/XSX will share some of the same issues, albeit reduced.

There is also one thing I’ve recently considered. The PS4/Xbox One have a lot of games that have flown under the radar, hidden gems if you will. There’s a whole subset of $15-$40 games I haven’t experienced. I haven’t dipped my toes into VR yet either.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The PS5/XSX look great. Price notwithstanding, they both seem to be more technically accomplished, and it doesn’t seem as though we’ll be waiting terribly long for games. All the more reason to wait until these machines have beefier game libraries and explore PS4PRO/Xbox One X/Nintendo Switch in the meantime.

Enough about that though. Will you Pixelroosters and Pixelettes be purchasing 9th gen machine day 1 or will you wait? Drop your replies below. PEACE
