WHY PLAY IS IMPORTANT

Work, work, work. There have been times where my life has felt like a revolving door of work and paying bills. Sure, I’d much rather not be poor and hungry, but why work so hard if you aren’t able to enjoy the fruits of your labor? Play is important. Why? Because it gives us something to work toward. Imagine the last vacation you took (mine was in 1995). You probably have fond memories of the beach or a hotel resort. Life changing stuff. We toil and tussle with our jobs because of these memories.

Something rather magical occurred the other day. I went to the park with family members of mine. As I pushed the kids on the swing, I could feel the pressures of life wash away. In that moment, I felt at peace.

HAPPY FEELS

It’s in this moment that I realized that being a kid kinda sucks. To dally with reckless abandon and zero regard for your surroundings; then at some point, life snatches it away from you. So cruel. Listen, I’m 32. I’ve changed in ways that I couldn’t imagine. One thing that has remained constant throughout my life is my childlike sense of awe and wonder. Video games can and often do recapture some of that amusement. It’s not the most important thing in life, but it is important. Gaming has many benefits. It has solidified my creativity and wanderlust, my hand-eye coordination has never been better. Work may be necessary, but play is what motivates me.
